Kim Yeo Jin may not have held main roles but she seems to have this ubiquitous presence in Korean Dramas. She has drawn praises for her supporting roles in film and in dramas. Here are 8 recent dramas you can catch her in.

Love in the Moonlight is a gender bender romance drama focused on the Crown Prince Lee Yeong (Park Bo Gum) and Hong Ra On (Kim Yoo Jung), a girl pretending to be a eunuch. 

In this drama, Hong Ra On lived her life as a boy without knowing the reason until after 18 years of her life. This popular and street-smart young lady was raised as a boy because her mother, Kim So Sa (Kim Yeo Jin) wanted to protect her from the people that are chasing them. 

The people who are out to get them are the Royal guards from the Palace because Hong gyeong Nae (Jung Hae-kyun), Ra On’s father, committed treason against the Kingdom. But Hong Ra On never knew her father until they met at the present when she became a male relationship counselor and a romance novel author under the name Sam-nom. 

The deeper you go in this drama, the more fun it becomes. It reveals the filthy world of politics. As the Crown Prince navigates through it, he has to deal with his inner emotions and find ways to keep his people safe and sound. However, not all is all dark and gloomy because unbeknownst to him, he finds love in the most unexpected places.

Go Ae Rin (Jung In Sun) became a single mother of two when she unexpectedly lost her husband. She found herself in the middle of a spy war. She lives in the apartment in front of Kim Bon (So Ji Sub). 

Kim Bon, who’s code name is Terius, is a legendary black ops agent for the National Intelligence Service (NIS) who has gone into hiding after disappearing without a trace. In a failed secret operation 3 years ago, he lost the woman he loved. Since then, Kim Bon has hidden away in his apartment, across Go Ae Rin’s. He lived isolated from the world around him and living in secrecy. But since then, he has been trying to uncover the mystery behind what happened back then. 

When a mysterious incident took the life of Go Ae Rin’s husband, they both teamed up to uncover a huge conspiracy that Go Ae Rin’s husband had become involved in. Joining them is Jin Young Tae (Son Ho Jun), a former con man who may hold the key to what Go Ae Rin and Kim Bon are searching for. 

Kim Yeo Jin plays Shim Eun Ha, the Chief of Kingcastle Information System (KIS), and a woman with superb investigative skills. Along with the rest of the squad, they offer a lighthearted tone to the series. They are not just a group of investigators but they are out to find ways to help their friends. Through the course of the drama, Shim Eun Ha’s group helped Ae Ra on several occasions. 

Where Stars Land (2018)

This drama takes audiences into the lives of employees at Incheon International Airport. 

Lee Soo Yeon (Lee Je Hoon) graduated from the prestigious KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology). He begins work at Incheon International Airport who gives himself up to six months to get used to working there. Lee Soo Yeon is a mysterious man who keeps people at a distance.

There, Soo Yeon meets Han Yeo Reum (Chae Soo Bin). She is a new employee in the passenger service team. She strives for perfection in what she does but her mistakes seem to catch up with her a lot. 

Kim Yeo Jin plays Yoon Hye Won, Han Yeo Reum’s mom, who at one time got into an accident when a fire erupted on a descending plane. Having survived the ordeal, she saw that her daughter has a savior in Soo Yeon.  Turns out, he often ends up cleaning after the messes Yeo Reum makes on the job. But this concern slowly goes beyond work-related matters. 

This drama leads us to ask the question: Is it possible to do well in a job when you know it’s not exactly the job you had in mind?

My Strange Hero (2018)

Kang Bok Soo (Yoo Seung Ho) was a rowdy high school student who was falsely accused of committing acts of violence and ended up expelled from school. Those who brought the accusations against him were his first love, Son Soo Jung (Jo Bo Ah), and a fellow student Oh Se Ho (Kwak Dong Yeon).

Kang Bok Soo’s life as an adult was not an easy one either as nothing seemed to go right for him. With plans to seek revenge on Son Soo Jung and Oh Se Ho, he decides to return to the same high school. But this only pulled Kang Bok Soo in a series of unexpected cases.

Kim Yeo Jin joins the cast as Lim Se Gyeong, a person you would love to hate. She is Se Ho’s abusive mother who inherited the position as board chairwoman of Seolsong after her husband left her. Se Ho’s relationship with his mother is the catalyst that made him a ruthless person as an adult. She persuaded Se Ho to frame Bok Soo for his suicide attempt. She is also responsible for thwarting  Bok Soo and Soo Jung’s attempt to reform the school. Eventually, she gets arrested for violating the Additional Law of Specific Crimes by committing embezzlement and bribery, then sentenced to life imprisonment.

Rookie Historian Goo Hae-Ryung (2019)

The story takes place at the beginning of the 19th century. Goo Hae Ryung (Shin Se Kyung) is an intern to become a palace historian. However, it was not acceptable for women to write historical records at that time. They are generally looked down upon because of their gender.  Yet, Goo Hae Ryung fulfills her duty as a historian and proves to the world that everyone is equal. She takes one step at a time to create her own destiny in Joseon, where the Confucian ideas are deeply rooted.

Along with the fight of the female palace historians, the drama also tells of her romance with Prince Yi Rim (Cha Eun Woo), who has a secret of his own.

Queen Dowager Yim is the matriarch of the royal family, portrayed by Kim Yeo-jin. Residing in the Inner Palace, she works behind the scenes to avenge her late son, dethroned king Huiyeong Yi Gyeom who was Prince Ye Rim’s father. 

This historical K-drama has got a lot of people talking! Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung might look like your typical romance drama from the outset, but it offers some interesting twists and turns that make it a binge-worthy delight.

Itaewon Class (2020)

Itaewon Class (One of the nicer kdramas on Netflix) is one of the successful K-dramas of 2020 as it tells an engaging story of revenge and redemption. 

Park Sae Ro Yi (Park Seo-joon) is a victim of a powerful capitalist, who runs a food-based conglomerate. With power and influence, the proud CEO Jang Dae Hee (Yoo Jae Myung) sends Sae Ro Yi to prison despite the fact that it was his own son that was causing trouble. While in prison, Sae Ro Yi reads his abuser’s autobiography and learns about his tactics for building a successful food company. This was enough for him to build his own food company out of revenge after he comes out of prison. To achieve this dream, he rounds up a group of misfits who eventually become his family. 

Persistently staying by Sae Ro Yi’s side was the multi-talented and intelligent influencer, Jo Yi Seo (Kim Da Mi). She drops out of school to be part of his restaurant business despite her mom’s objections. 

Kim Yeo Jin plays Jo Jeong Min, a single mother who disapproves of Yi Seo quitting school and working at an early age. She was disappointed that despite the fact that she hustles hard to provide for her daughter, she seemed to just put her efforts in vain. Eventually, she comes around when she sees that Yi Seo has shown great savviness in running a business. 

Meow, the Secret Boy (2020)

In this lighthearted drama, the story revolves around a graphic designer in her mid-twenties named Kim Sol Ah (Shin Ye Eun).  She dreams of becoming a web-based comic author and has always had a love-hate relationship with cats.

But Sol Ah’s life changes fast when she brings home a friendly feline. It turns out that this is not just any old cat. Hong Jo can actually take human form and becomes exceptionally fond of So Ah. However, he goes to great pains to hide his human identity from her. Despite all the mishaps that he often finds himself in, he proves that he will do anything that is required in order to stay near her. But the question is how long can Hong Jo manage to keep his identity a secret? 

Kim Yeo Jin joins the cast to play Sung Hyun Ja, the mother of Go Doo Sik (Kang Hoon), Sol Ah’s friend. She and her husband run their own restaurant, and she disapproves of her son’s relationship with Eun Ji Eun (Yoon Ye Joo).

“Extracurricular” is centered around three high school students who find themselves in the world of crime to earn money, only to come clashing with unpredictable dangers. 

Kim Dong Hee plays Ji Soo, who goes from a model student to a criminal after committing an unthinkable act. He may come off as a shy model student, but he is actually the mastermind behind a criminal activity that is beyond the imagination of his fellow schoolmates. He made this choice because he needed the money for living expenses and to save up for college tuition. His shady double life seems to run without a hitch until he gets mixed up with a rich girl named Bae Gyu Ri (Park Joo Hyun) and reckless troublemaker Min Hee (Jung Da Bin). It was only a matter of time when they realized that their bad choices come with irreversible consequences. There is no more turning back now. A life of crime and violence awaits them.

Kim Yeo Jin plays Lee Hae Gyoung, a detective who specialized in juvenile crime. She has been investigating a possible case about sex trafficking. As she goes further down the rabbit hole, she realizes that this case might be bigger than she thought.
