With August just mere hours away, we are in for another set of new K-drama releases next month! While some series that you may have grown to love are coming to an end, here are 6 new ones that just might find their way into your hitlist! 

The Road: The Tragedy of One

This mystery-thriller drama stars Ji Jin-Hee, Yoon Se-Ah, and Kim Hye-Eun. The plot revolves around the dark secrets of those who reside on ‘Royal The Hill’ – an exclusive place where Korea’s richest people live. Baek Soo-Hyun (Ji Jin-Hee) is a successful anchorman who is also a strong influencer. Behind the facade of a well-loved public figure, he actually has a cold heart. He is driven by his ambitions that stirs up tension within his family. 

Soo-Hyun’s wife, Seo Eun-Soo (Yoon Se-Ah), comes from an affluent family. She is very protective of her family, that when tragedy strikes, she is willing to go through hell and high water just to protect them. 

The drama is a Korean drama adaptation of Norizuki Rintaro’s novel “The Tragedy of One” (“Ichi no Higeki” in Japanese). It will air on tvN this August 4th at 9:30 P.M., taking the slot of ‘My Roommate Is A Gumiho’.

Police University

Police University is an action-packed K-drama that revolves around the events and cases at a Police University. Ex-detective Yoo Dong-man (Cha Tae-hyun) has dedicated two decades of his life to the violent crimes and cybercrimes division. His experience landed him a job as a professor at the Police University. It is there that he crossed paths with Kang Seon-ho (Jinyoung) and Oh Kang-hee (Krystal), who are rookies who have excellent skills. 

If you’re into police dramas, tune in to  KBS2 every Monday and Tuesday starting August 9th. Police University will take the spot of webtoon-based drama, ‘At a Distance, Spring Is Green’.

The Second Husband

If plots that are driven by love, revenge, and scandalous affairs are your guilty pleasure, then ‘The Second Husband’ should be on your watch list.

The story revolves around Bong Sun-hwa (Uhm Hyun-kyung) and her relationship with Moon Sang-hyeok (Han Ki-woong), with whom she shares a child with. The couple have been in a long-term relationship which was rocked when Sang-hyeok got involved in an illicit affair with Yoon Jae-kyung (Oh Seung-Ah). 

He chose to stay with Jae-Kyung and left Sun-Hwa—a decision that was mainly driven by his personal ambitions since Jae-Kyung is from a rich family. Sun-Hwa loses her child and vows to seek revenge. But her life took an interesting turn when she met Jae-Kyung’s stepbrother Yoon Jae-Min (Cha Seo-Won).

Catch the twists and turns of ‘The Second Husband’ as it airs on August 9th as a Monday to Friday drama on MBC, taking the time slot of ‘A Good Supper’.

Fly High, Butterfly

The series tells the story of hairstylists and interns at a hair salon named ‘Fly High,  Butterfly’. It tackles the story of young individuals hustling hard under tiring conditions while dealing with all kinds of customers. In this story is Gi-Bbeum (Kim Hyang-Gi), a woman in her early 20’s who works as an assistant intern in the salon. She works with three other assistant interns, Moo-Yeol (Park Jung-Woo), Teacher Woo (Moon Tae-Yoo), and Soo-Ri (Kim Ga-Hee). Just like everyone else, Gi-Bbeum works hard on her craft, but she has a hard time dealing with customers. 

Kwang Soo  (Choi Daniel)is also a professional hair stylist at Fly High Butterfly. He is enthusiastic at his job and he works with hair salon director Michelle (Oh Yoon-ah) and professional hair stylist Jen.

‘Fly High, Butterfly’ will air every Monday and Tuesday on JTBC starting August 23rd at 9:30 P.M.

Lovers Of The Red Sky

Sageuk (historical dramas) fans have something to look forward to this August with ‘Lover’s of the Red Sky’. It’s a love story between Hong cheon-ki (Kim Yoo-jung) who is a gifted painter in the Joseon era. 

Ha Ram (Ahn Yo-seop) is an officer at the Seowoongwan, an office that is in charge of astronomy, geography, the art of divination, and meteorology. When he was young, an accident caused him to lose his eyesight. But what is so interesting is that despite his disability, Ha-ram is in possession of astounding talent. He is able to read the future by tracing the movement of the sky at night.

On top of that, his disability did not stop Hong Cheon-ki from falling hard for him. Hong Cheon-ki wants to be close to the man he loves and Ha Ram finds himself waiting for her too.

This drama series is based on a novel named “Hong Chun Gi” by the author Jung Eun Gwol and directed by Jang Tae Yoo. So if you’re up for a love story woven into a period drama, ‘Lovers of the Red Sky’ will air on SBS every Monday and Tuesday starting August 23rd at 10:00 P.M., taking the slot of ‘Racket Boys’.

Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha

For all Start-Up fans, here’s another chance to see ‘good boy’ as Kim Seon-ho transforms into a charming village hero for this 2021 comeback. And not just that, but Kim Seon-Ho will also star along with Shin Min-Ah for romantic-comedy, ‘Hometown Cha Cha Cha’.

A remake of the film “Mr. Hong,” this romance drama tells the story of Yoon Hye-jin (Shin Min-ah), a dentist who moves from Seoul to the seaside village of Gongjin, and Hong Doo-shik (Kim Seon-ho), a man who jumps from one odd job to another as he is a jack-of-all-trades. Despite the difficult circumstance he finds himself in, Doo-shik still has the time to help everyone around town. This is the reason that the locals see him as a hero.  

‘Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha’ will air on tvN and Netflix on August 28th, offering you new episodes every Saturday and Sunday taking over ‘The Devil Judge’ timeslot.
